If you come from a certain time — your probably remember Pinky & The Brain.
The line below (that repeats throughout the cartoon) is my favourite, and the only one I can recall with ease…
Pinky asks Brain, “What are we going to do tonight Brain?
To which Brain responds with:
If you come from the same time you also probably remember Street Fighter and HADOUUUUKEN!!
The move is achieved by the character thrusting their palms forward, sending a blast of spirit energy (or ki) towards the opponent ("ki blast").
What is the real-life equivalent of the Hadouken?
It is concentrating your forces — your time, focus and energy — and discharging them towards a target.
But that is easier said than done, you need to have the force to be able to discharge it.
So how do you get the force? How do you start achieving your goals?
How do you take over the world?
The Triad of Energy ⚡️
Do no harm — you need to retain and protect your energy.
You need to create the environment where you generate sufficient energy.
You must concentrate your forces and direct them to the right place.
1) RETAIN & PROTECT
Declutter and simplify your life — a messy life seldom attains greatness. You need as much headspace as possible. You need to remove distractions that leak energy and you need to create boundaries which prevent others from leeching energy off you.
But it’s not only others that steal you energy — you steal your own energy, by wasting it.
Stimulants like alcohol and digital stimulants like mindless scrolling and dopamine hits from screen time are today’s silent killers of success. These things flood your brain with non-natural dopamine and kill your motivation. There is no discussion.
The same goes for extra weight that you need to let go of. There are relationships or situations out there are toxic too — they poison your energy. You need to cut them, mercilessly.
2) GENERATE
Now that you have stopped the energy pool from leaking vital life force into nothingness, you need to replenish it too. First, you need to invest in good sleep and nutrition — it all starts there.
After you’ve covered the basics you need to layer energy-promoting activities like a healthy exposure to sunlight and a closeness to nature. You can’t stay in all day and expect to be healthy, that’s not happening.
You need a steady flow of positive inputs and to reduce the negative as much as possible. Reading will inspire and energise you, fulfilling conversations will do the same.
And walking is a cheat code for problem solving and idea generation…
But you’re not a machine that works 24/7/365 — you’re human and you need downtime. Travelling and exploring is highly energy generating, you need to do that several times a year. It helps you zoom out and gives you perspective.
3) CONCENTRATE YOUR FORCES
You would think this is the easiest part.
“Now that I’ve retained my energy and generated a lot of it — it will be easy to concentrate it towards my goals.”
In fact, this is the hardest part.
Because you have so much energy — it’s easy to lose control of.
Look at Ryu again — you think it’s easy channelling all that force towards the right place?
Do not underestimate the difficulty of concentrating your forces.
TAKING OVER THE WORLD
Executing the real-life Hadouken is not a one time thing — it’s a lifelong practice.
You will lose direction and get derailed many a time, but that’s part and parcel of walking this path.
The falling and standing back up again is not distinct from the journey to greatness — it’s part of it.1
